a piston. So saying that detonation wasn't significant due to no marks on the top crown when you probably had swain coated pistons as well --is not a solid irrefutable theory. ** I misread the oil cooler circuit part of your post ** All Z tuners have had bearing issues -- bearing issues can happen for a variety of reasons. Touché --- this comment is both true and misleading at the same time - just to name a few : 1) improper motor build 2) too much boost 3) improper fuel pressure 4) bad gas 5) too lean on the tune / air fuel 6) too aggressive timing 7) improper warm up before zinging motor 8) not following the 6p's (that you wrote) Based on the facts that you have communicated, you can't rule out the ignition timing until the data supports it. On a dyno - the Z is never heat soaked like it would be on the road at speed with engine temps racing .. it's entirely possible that your electric water pump can't keep up at high RPM and thus weakest cylinder suffers. The engine temp would NEVER show this.
It's also entirely possible that you are 100% right and I'm talking out of my rear - but the data should support this vs. any opinion. My only point is that you have had this issue for the last 10 years at approx. every 15k miles on a Z that has had a ton of modifications AND changes AND has been driven hard. Before you / I / other's signoff on this "is the cause fact and it can't be anything else" - please complete some additional research and use that data to prove your theories as true and eliminate others as false.
